Well I wasn’t going to write about this year’s festivities. I blogged about Tailgating, which is the ‘other’ day of the year Twinny and I tear up the town, so I might as well…
Twinny and I have done the ‘bar crawl’ for about 14 years in E.L. and Lansing. Generally we start about 10 am in E.L. and by mid afternoon we are downtown by the capitol. Each year is a different group of friends. Some come and go throughout the years, Twinny’s hubby and his best friend used to, and the last couple years, Junior has come along. Some people meet us after noon, some even later. Either way – a good time is had.
It usually starts off with us leaving cars at my work and we take the bus to our first destination. For years it was Peanut Barrell. A place where you’d see more locals and college professors than students. The greatest thing about this places is that you can order baskets of peanuts and they don’t care if you throw the shells on the floor. I’m just now realizing we didn’t go there this year. We started at BW3 for green beer. 2nd bar was Landshark, which is popular for their Sharkbowls. A sharkbowl is a bowl of alcohol (it’s pink, don’t ask me what’s in it) that should have gummy sharks in the bottom. (It didn’t) You have to have at least four people to order one and they serve it with a bunch of straws. I think that my mistake last Monday was partaking in that… I should have stuck to just the beer. We didn’t stay long. The place stank! (Stunk!?) We were pretty much the only ones there, and they said they’d been dead all morning. Explain to me please then, why was there no toilet paper or paper towels in the bathroom?
By now (1:30 ish) there were eight of us getting our groove on. Usually the only plan we have is to get out of E.L. by 2:00 when the students start coming back out. Getting down to the downtown are is a little better suited for us, since we’re all over 30. This year we had a ‘point of interest’ . Tommy Foster was playing at Green Door at 3:00. Green Door ended up being our last stop for the day. TF is a guy who’s been around town forever (Twinny, ‘Pause and Reflect’). Call him a cover band if you want, but the man is a mastermind at taking songs apart, tweaking them and putting them back together. I wish I could remember some of the songs he played so that I could give you an example. Help me out Twin. I remember dancing like crazy and eating a lot of popcorn. I didn’t drink alot while I was at that place – at that point I knew I was done. Twin, did you take my beads while you were rubbing my back in the bathroom stall? I came home with no beads!
Anyway, a good time was had by all, even more friends showed up while we were there. I left aroud 5. I think Twin and Junior left just a little later. Some stayed till about 7 and God only knows why JG stayed till 11. His wife was a little pissed about that.
Anyway, we need to get those disposable cameras developed – I need to fill in a couple gaps.
sharkbowls are sometimes blue. This is the 2nd year in a row they didnt have gummies.
Yes I stole your beads while you were puking. Under the pretense of getting them out of the line of fire.
Junior and I left at 6. You were still there.
Pause and reflect
No way – I left first. My DD will confirm it.
And if you’re going to throw me under the bus about puking…..
…pause and reflect.
I think in a week or two, we’re going to try to catch Foster at the exchange. M said he was really good, and that she’d like to see him again.
Ah, I just love reading stories about my three siblings getting drunk together and puking (not puking together, presumably).
How come you never invited me? LOL
Hope you all had a nice sober Easter.
Ah yes, the stories a mother loves to hear! Thanks again!!
Who are these clowns??????
clowns, Twins favorite.
I have to clear up a few misunderstandings.
1. We weren’t technically puking together, however we were together when said puking occured.
2. Book, last time you said that I told you were didn’t have to be invited. I should have remembered to remind you to take off work and come with us.
3. I can’t remember that last time I was that bad. I’m usuaaly well aware of my ‘beer count’. (Rickbo, the last time may actually have been the night before the Denny’s incident.)
4. I never take off the day after. I figure it keeps me to a minimum. I don’t know what happened, but I will tell you, my day was very painful.
5. I didn’t puke in my brother’s new 2007 Ford Edge. Nor did I do it in a hat and throw it out the window only to have it splatter down the side of the car.
….pause and reflect
What about the day in the parking lot at the Secretary of State? I have to say, I have never seen a more HORRIBLE picture on a driver’s license!!
damn… busted… it was never really stated above that I was guilty of puking too. I told Mimi but didnt really mention it to Rickbo.
Oh well.. someone had to break in Junior’s new car
Besides, it needed a good washing anyway.
And yes Book, last year you said the same thing (look in the blog) “why wasnt I invited?” and then I said you were always welcome to come to which you laughed and said no way. I guess we all thought you meant it. Ok.. so open invite for next year…. you are officially invited!!!
No way, LOL!
I have to admit that going from bar to bar getting drunk with you guys doesn’t really appeal to me that much.
But ask me to do just about anything else that doesn’t involve bars/clubs and I’d love to do it! You guys never ask me to do anything.
We dont really do much together besides get dtunk and stagger around from bar to bar. (just kidding!!!)
Seriously, it’s true.
Hmmmm – what about the time in the parking lot at the Secretary of State? That was probably the worst driver’s license picture I have ever seen in my life!!
Snow, you got me on that one. I was feelnig a little under the weather. Did I ever thank you for the gum?
hmmm.. Dennys and Secretary of State parking lot. What can top that?
Ive got under my belt: Out back behind Burger King in Kzoo and the side of the building of the car lot right before Frandor/27. Im not including inside the bathrooms in the bar or right outside the bar or concert halls or parking lots. Public places like restaurants and government buidlings hold more credence. Especially when its the next morning!
So hi-5 dear twin.. you take the cake with the Secretary of State!! For that I award you the coveted Stick of Gum award!!
Do I get to mention what happened to Hubby’s black truck and the seat belt that was forever stained pink? (Well, until it blew up.)
I remember the Kzoo one – weren’t you doing the ‘drunk girl crying’ thing? I don’t remember the Frandor one – was I with you?
As far as Hubby’s truck, I told you ‘if I give you my glasses, just take them’. And I made it all the way home from Detroit, if I could have held on for two more minutes, I’d have been in my front yard. …too may cranberry vodkas….
good times
Yeah.. it was great.. Hubby and I had been arguing and I was pissed. I got sick and probably had been crying and was actually approached by 2 cops. (western/central weekend.. hey.. where were you? We stayed at your place!!!) They asked if all was ok and since I am always looking to mess with someone, I ALMOST pointed to Hubby inside BK and told them he hit me. That woud have been hysterical!!!!
The frandor one.. me, J, and V. Coming from Small Planet. Trust me, when someone says “pull over, I think Im gonna be sick”, dont ask “are you sure!!??” Just do it!! There’s more to it and Ill tell you privately cause some things parents really dont want to hear.
The truck incident.. I believe we were almost to the Okemos exit. I remember pulling up in front of the house on Pine and laughing so hard when I saw the side of the truck. And being excited to tell M what you did. I think we were late tho and you were already in hot water. Did we just dump you on the doorstep and take off? (JK)
ahhhh. Good times.
nooo, we were right by the Temple Club, across from Su Casa. I remember that much. I will always hold hgh regard for your hubby for cleaning it up. He never complained, but it was a long time before he gave me another ride anywere.
The night in Kzoo, the rest of us were inside BK eating. That was also the night Vinnie got towed from my parking lot. Kind of felt bad about that.
Temple Club??? Un-unh First, we were still on the expressway, doing 75pmh!!! We would have been nowhere near Temple club taking you back to your house. 96 to 4-96 off at Penn, penn to sag, sag to pine. (or 4-96/127 to sag exit @ frandor and sag to pine). Temple Club is nowhere near where we were!!! If we were coming home from Detroit, why would we be by Temple club? (did we think we needed more to drink??) And I just asked Hubby… he doesnt know anything about the Temple club either. He says expressway…. and I gotta say, since he was sober, he’d know!!
ooohhhh.. I had forgotten about V’s car getting towed. Didnt he have to walk somewhere to go get it? I remember Melon, Josh, and Bishop being around. Well,… they were there when we got up in the morning.
good times
BTW, hubby still isnt thrilled to have you in his vehicle if you have been drinking. No offense. But Im no longer allowed in Juniors car so I guess we’re equal. he he he
man… I just gotta…..
pause and reflect
(I told the girls at work today to do that… they laughed at me)
75 mph? Classic.Makes the story even better. I would have hated to be the car behind us.
Since it was around midnight, I almost doubt there was anyone close enough behind to get the repercussions of your fun evening.
Now 6:30ish on a monday evening….. that had to suck for whoever was behind Junior.
